Experience at every level of the Golf Industry
While growing up in Kirksville, MO, on a 9-hole golf course with no driving range, I developed a love and passion for the game that helped shape me both personally and professionally. Learning the game from my father, Bill Richerson, who was a college golf coach and professor at Northeast Missouri State University, gave me an appreciation for the game that continues to shape and guide my career. It is a career that has taken me to a variety of facilities and given me an opportunity to work alongside PGA Professionals in nine different sections. I’ve had the pleasure to work at almost every type of green grass facility; from daily-fee, to semiprivate, private and full-service resorts. I have also served at the local, regional and national levels of the PGA of America, I gained important insight into all levels of the Association.
During the first 18 years of my career, I worked with the Marriott & Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Golf Corporations in various positions at facilities throughout the country. I started as an entry-level assistant picking the range and cleaning carts, and worked my way up to Tournament Coordinator, 1st Assistant, Lead Instructor, Head Golf Professional and later as a Director of Golf and General Manager.
In 2006 I served as the Senior Director of Golf Properties for the PGA of America, which led to my current role as the General Manager & Group Director of Golf at Whistling Straits® & Blackwolf Run®. I’m responsible for managing all aspects of the day-to-day golf businesses for Kohler Co.
Having just concluded a term on the PGA Board of Directors while serving on the national PGA Budget Committee, Investment Committee and Chair of the Golf Properties Committee, I have a clear understanding of our association and how it is governed. I’ve built a relationship with the PGA Staff and PGA Leadership based on understanding and mutual respect.
